Plant a Tree For Fraser Project

At this years Zippy Picnic some of us will be discussing a project to plant a tree at the site in memory of him, so he will be permantly present in some way at future picnics. One suggestion is a Silver Birch, a tree symbiotic with Mushrooms.

  1. Wonderful idea, lets do it... and maybe plant an evergreen too, as that represents the constancy of nature..

  2. Don't just plant a tree for Fraser, plants lots for planet Earth as well. We [homo sapiens] have destroyed so much, hardly any forests left and even the mighty Amazon rainforest will be gone in 20 years at the present rate.
Re the type of tree, Birch are rather short lived, rarely grow into very big trees. Beech are better and glow beautiful orange in the autumn. Or the oak would be a good one, they can live for several thousand years and nourish lots of wildlife.

  3. A project??? I plant trees a lot, it only takes planting the seed and nurturing it until large enough to plant out. How about several? Get some acorns and start a Fraser Wood! Birch is a very small tree, vulnerable to being blown over, rarely live very long. Oaks live for several thousand years and nurture a lot of wildlife. Or a beech would be nice, they glow golden in autumn. If you want any seeds let me know. Good to know Fraser is being remembered.
